Claiming The Right to Another Person’s Emotions — Hopeful Future of Society

Today marks the day that we all can make the decision to step outside of ourselves and understand the world around us. Its external perspectives and experiences that challenge our status quo that will help us feel closer.

Anyone can read books and believe they understand a particular struggle, but what that lacks is emotion. Emotions are from where everybody makes decisions, so claiming the right to another person’s emotions without talking to them first is asinine.

It’s apparent to me that we live in a world where people bubble themselves and claim to understand what’s outside of that bubble. That’s dangerous. We are giving decision making power to those without a true grasp on the reality of the situation. And even worse, without any empathy for those they are making decisions on behalf of.

Gay rights. BLM. Abortion. So many people claim to empathise with those associated with these groups without taking the time to hear their perspective.

Now the same can sometimes be said for the “vice versa,” yet it’s hard to feel any empathy for those arguing for the removal of people’s rights based on an opinion that isn’t technically theirs, but instead the opinion of a main character from one of the most famous stories in existence.

It’s hard being the bigger person, but sadly it’s what needs to happen.

As my therapist once told me, “Keep your side clean. It’s better to not have anything for the other person to use as an argument against you.” This way, when the topic arises, there’s only one issue to discuss. Theirs.

So, here I am going to talk about my life experiences, my high thoughts, and the perspectives I learn from living around the world. Being open to new perspectives is something I deem to be deeply important if we as a society are going to work out our problems.

We fight for our families because we have come to understand them emotionally. So why not apply the same respect to the entire world?

The absence of outside perspectives and self reflection is dangerous to the greater good. There is a need for truth and understanding now more than ever.
